What it is
Margonem is a free-to-play 2D MMORPG by the studio Garmory. The official site describes it as a "J-RPG style browser game", and the game's own documentation opens with the point that matters most for this road: there are no files to download and no lengthy installation — a web browser is all you need.
The documentation calls Margonem the first Polish MMORPG with 2D graphics. Its world was ravaged long ago in a War of the Mages and has since risen from the ruins. The developers stress that the game is not based on any known RPG system: most of its stories, dialogues and formulas are their own, drawing on legends, fantasy and science fiction.
How a session goes
You begin by choosing one of six professions: warrior, hunter, mage, paladin, tracker or blade dancer. Basic attributes such as strength, agility and intellect are distributed mostly automatically on each level-up. The documentation presents this as protection against building your character wrong — a kind rule for newcomers.
Quests range from driving off a band of orcs to, in the developers' own example, helping an old lady milk her cow. When a fight starts, a separate combat module opens with a turn system: participants act in order, there is a waiting time for each action, and a combat log sits in the middle of the screen. Ordinary monsters are joined by stronger tiers called Elites, Heroes and Titans, and stronger enemies drop richer loot.
Trading is a game of its own. Merchants sell swords, bows, armour, potions and even clothes, and players trade directly or through auctions. PvP runs on a duelling system that awards Honor Points for beating evenly matched opponents, and the world has three types of locations depending on their PvP rules. Clans, a forum and seasonal events — such as The Abyss and the autumn and Halloween events announced on the site in 2026 — complete the picture.
The time it asks for
Turn-based combat means slow reflexes are never punished, but it also means fights take a little longer than in an action game. The world is large: the documentation says crossing it from corner to corner would take more than an hour without travel items. Exploring sessions can stretch accordingly.
The combat documentation also lists a stamina system, which acts as a natural limit on how much you can do in one go. Margonem suits an evening with a clear goal far more than a two-minute break.
How it is paid for
Margonem is free to play. Its premium currency is Draconite (written Ðraconite in the documentation), used at selected NPC shops, in barter options and in the Premium panel; some shops appear only for a limited time, for example during holiday events. The documentation also lists a character reset — new profession and gender, back to level 10 — as a Draconite service. Free to start, optional in-game purchases.
Who should take this road
Take it if you are…
- a fan of classic 2D MMORPGs and turn-based combat;
- new to MMORPGs and worried about ruining a character build;
- a trader at heart — auctions and barter run deep here.
Skip it if you are…
- an action player who wants real-time control;
- someone who only has a few minutes at a time;
- put off by 2D sprite graphics.
