Every journal needs something in its purse. Ours is filled — or will be — by partner programmes run by game publishers, and this page explains how that works and where its limits are.
Where the coins come from
Some publishers pay a commission when a new player arrives through a partner link. If you follow such a link from this journal and register in the game, the publisher may pay us a share. You pay nothing extra, and the game is the same game whichever door you came through.
What the purse cannot buy
- A review, a verdict or a kinder line in the pack list.
- A place on the road: the order of the stops follows how much time a game asks, from light to heavy.
- A recommendation. If we would tell you to skip a game, we still say so, partner programme or not.
Telling the links apart
Only the buttons that lead to a game's official site can be partner links. Each one carries a small label underneath: partner link when it is one, direct link when it goes straight to the publisher with no partner code. Every such button is also marked as sponsored in the page code, which search engines read. Links inside the text, to help pages and the like, are always plain.
What stays the same
Still no cookies, no visitor counting and no advertising on these pages. A publisher's site can see that a partner visit came from us; that is the whole of it.
Advertising and partnerships
Proposals about advertising or partner programmes go to hello@guildroadnotes.com. We read them all, and none of them comes with a say over our notes.
